Tbilisi History Museum was founded in 1910 as the City Museum. More recently, it was named after the famous Georgian poet Joseph Grishashvili. Since 1984, the Tbilisi History Museum was housed in a restored caravanserai "representing the city historical role as (Silk Road trading outpost) Silk Road trading outpost.
The museum has more than fifty thousand artifacts. They reflect the history of Tbilisi with the end of the 4th millennium BC. e. to the present day. The museum contains archaeological, ethnographic and archival materials, as well as works of folk art and crafts, and rich photo – collection. A number of unique works of art and printing are also stored in the museum.
Together with the old works, the museum also exhibits works of contemporary art. Since 1986, many exhibitions of Georgian and foreign artists were exhibited in the museum.
